Nike + iPod

Compatibility with Peaksware Software

  • The workout files created by Nike + iPod are compatible for uploading to your TrainingPeaks online account by way of the Upload from Daily Log method. Please note that the file format used for the Nike + iPod is not compatible with WKO+, nor is the Nike + iPod compatible with Device Agent.
Please note that in order to upload any workout file to your TrainingPeaks online account, it is required that your account is in a Paid Subscription , or that your account is in the Coached Athlete format.

How to Upload from Daily Log the Nike + iPod on a PC

Step 1: File Path Setup: Show Hidden Folders

This only needs to be done the first time you upload a Nike + iPod file.
  • Connect your iPod to your PC.
  • Open the Windows My Computer screen in your PC.
  • Find, select, and open your iPod in the Drives section of the My Computer screen.
  • From here, you should be viewing the firectory of your iPod.
  • Now, open the Tools menu and select "Folder Options..."

  • Next, in the Folder Options, click the "View" tab, and under the Hidden file and folders file, select "Show hidden files and folders".

  • Click Apply to folders, then click OK.
  • Go back to the view of your iPod'd Directory and you will see that it now shows the folder "iPod_Cotnrol" on your iPod.

Step 2: Finding your Workout Files

  • Now that you can see the iPod Control folder in your iPod, open that folder and click through this file path until you reach:

iPod_Control\Device\Trainer\Workouts\Empeds\

  • Under this folder will be another folder with a name of a long string of letters and numbers (it is the unique ID of your Nike sensor). You can save yourself time with future uploads by simply creating a shortcut to this folder in your home directory, or on your desktop.
  • Within that folder named after your Nike sensor, you will find the two folders that contain your workout files; the two folders are called "latest" and "synched". Every file you've already sent to Nike is in "synched", and all the new ones are still in "latest". The files are named after the date on which they occurred. You can copy them from one of these folders to someplace easy to remember them, but we do not recommend deleting or moving them!

Step 3: Upload your Workout Files to TrainingPeaks.com.

Once you have found the file you want to upload, the rest is easy.
  • Log in to your TrainingPeaks account
  • Go to your Daily Log (found in the Training menu)
  • Create a new workout if one is not already planned
  • Click the "Upload Data!" button found in the middle towards the bottom of the workout entry form
  • Click the Browse button in the Upload screen that appears, and find the file that you want to upload
  • Once you have selected the correct file path, click Upload Now

How to Upload from Daily Log the Nike + iPod on a Mac

Step 1: iTunes Setup: Enable Disk Use

This only needs to be done the first time you upload a Nike + iPod file.
  • Connect your iPod to your Mac.
  • Open your iTunes and select your iPod.
  • Select the "Enable Disk Use", then click "Apply".

Step 2: Finding your Workout Files

The the Finder or Terminal on your Mac to find the files on your system.
Using the Finder
  • Your Mac normally does not display all of the files on your iPod; this is because there is a lot of stuff on there most people don't really care about, but for uploading the Nike + iPod workout files to TrainingPeaks, those hidden files are needed. A "see it all" mode can be found if you launch Terminal.app, which is in the "Utilities" folder under "Applications" in your Finder. Then, enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
  • You will only need to enter this command once; after that, the iPod_Control folder will appear every time. However, for changes like this to take effect, you'll need to re-launch your Finder, which can be done by holding down both the Apple and the Option keys and clicking your Finder icon in the Dock all at the same time, then select "Relaunch"

  • Once you have completed the above steps, go to the "icon" view mode, and start navigating. Click on the iPod icon on the desktop where you will find some new folders, including the iPod_Control.

  • Next, open the series of folders: Device, Trainer, Workouts, Empeds. Using the Terminal
  • Plug in your iPod to your Mac, and open the Terminal application. Go to the following file path to find your workout files:

/Volumes/<Your iPod name>/iPod_Control/Device/Trainer/Workouts/Empeds/<sensor id>/

(the iPod name and sensor id is unique to your device).

  • Within that folder you will find the two folders that contain your workout files; the two folders are called "latest" and "synched". Every file you've already sent to Nike is in "synched", and all the new ones are still in "latest". The files are named after the date on which they occurred. You can copy them from one of these folders to someplace easy to remember them, but we do not recommend deleting or moving them!


Step 3: Upload your Workout Files to TrainingPeaks.

  • Go to your Daily Log (found in the Training menu)
  • Create a new workout if one is not already planned
